TRIBAL ALLIANCE OF SOVEREIGN INDIAN NATIONS ELECTS NEW OFFICERS

 

Palm Springs, CA – The Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations (TASIN), an organization of 14 gaming and non-gaming tribes located in the Central Federal Judicial District of California, held its elections in Palm Springs last week. 

 

Elected to serve as TASIN Chairperson was Lynn “Nay” Valbuena of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.  This is Ms. Valbuena’s fifth year as the Chairperson of TASIN.

 

Barbara Lyons will serve as TASIN’s Vice Chairman.  Ms. Lyons is presently the Vice Chair of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. 

 

Mary Belardo, of the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, was elected Treasurer.  She presently serves her tribe as Chairwoman. 

 

Luanne Martin, a council member from the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, will serve as the TASIN Secretary.

 

“It is an honor to once again represent TASIN as its chairperson,” stated Ms. Valbuena.  “In the coming year, we have many great activities planned for TASIN.  I look forward to working with this new council and representing our tribes in the communities.”

 

The TASIN mission is to protect and promote the tribal sovereign governmental rights, the cultural identity and the interests of its membership tribes.

 

The TASIN region stretches from Santa Barbara County to the Colorado River and includes the following tribal nations:  Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Augustine Band of Mission Indians, Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, Cahuilla Band of Indians, Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, Morongo Band of Mission Indians, Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, Ramona Band of Mission Indians, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Santa Rosa Band of Mission Indians, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, Soboba Band of Mission Indians, Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians and Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians.
